Guys and Dolls Promo

Coming February, 2010, Guys and Dolls.
By Jo Sterling, Abe Burrow and Frank Loesser.

Set in Damon Runyon's mythical New York City and considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy, Guys and Dolls introduces us to vivid characters who have become legends: Sarah Brown, the upright but uptight "mission doll" out to reform the evildoers at Times Square; Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love; Adelaide, the chronically ill nightclub performer whose condition is due to the fact she's been engaged to the same man for 14 years; and Nathan Detroit, her devoted fiance, desperate as always to find a spot for his infamous floating crap game.

Directed by Russel Lloyd.

Running from February 5 through February 28, 2010.

Barnstormers is located between 6th and 7th streets at:
112 NE Evelyn Avenue in Grants Pass.. Phone: (541)479-3557

Oregon Cabaret Theater

Oregon Cabaret Theatre presents Red, White and Tuna.

The long-awaited sequel to Greater Tuna and A Tuna Christmas is here! Once again, two busy actors play two dozen characters in this hilarious quick-change tour-de-force (non-musical). It’s the Tuna High School Fourth of July Reunion and aging hippies Star Rivertree and Amber Windchime return after many years to find things both much the same and surprisingly different in small-town Tuna, Texas. Vera Carp and the Smut-snatchers are still banning books. Surly Stanley Bumiller is now an art star. The flirtatious Tastee Kreme girls Inita Goodwin and Helen Bedd are gunning for first place in the square dance contest. Didi Snavely of Didi’s Used Weapons is just plain gunning while gentle Petey Fisk is still trying to save Tuna’s animals. Will Didi’s long-gone husband R.R. return from his UFO adventure? Will Bertha Bumiller and Arles Struvie get a second chance at happiness? And who will be crowned Reunion Homecoming Queen?

This play will run from February 12th through March 28th with previews February 10 & 11 . Click here to see show times and more information.

Oregon Shakespeare Festival

Hamlet at the Angus Bowmer Theatre.

Something is rotten. In Denmark, a king is dead. His brother, Claudius, has snatched the throne and the widowed queen. Life goes on—for everyone but Hamlet. The prince, fixated on his uncle as the murderer, is charged by his father’s ghost to avenge the wrong. Disconnected from the foul world around him, Hamlet strains under the weight of his task. OSF’s first production in a decade of Shakespeare’s disturbing and psychologically rich masterpiece digs into the enigma of a man’s mind. Directed by Bill Rouch.

Play dates: February 19th through October 30th.

More info can be found here.

Well at the New Theatre.

Prepared with notes and hired actors, performance artist Lisa Kron wants to create a dramatic exploration of universal health and illness issues. But Lisa’s production takes a comic detour into more personal territory with the entrance of her affable, chronically ill mother. From an onstage recliner, Ann inserts herself into the rehearsal, and the wheels come loose from Lisa’s tidy plan. Kron’s comedy, hailed by The New York Times as “agonizingly funny,” is a love story that speaks to anyone who’s ever had a parent. Directed by James Edmondson.

Play dates: February 25th through June 18th.

More info can be found here.

Pride and Predjudice at the Angus Bowmer Theatre.

Mrs. Bennet will stop at nothing to obtain advantageous matches for her five middle-class daughters. This shouldn’t be difficult for Jane, the eldest and the family beauty. Her sister Elizabeth is another story. Witty and outspoken, Elizabeth takes an instant dislike to the high-born Mr. Darcy. He professes to find her barely tolerable. Or does he? Can their simmering attraction overcome class distinctions and prejudices about each other? Jane Austen’s beloved classic sparkles in this fresh and entertaining period adaptation. Directed by Libby Appel.

Play dates: February 21st through October 31st.

More info can be found here.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at the Angus Bowmer Theatre.

It’s a long, booze-filled night under Big Daddy’s plantation roof in 1950s Mississippi. Maggie “the Cat” still burns hot for her ex-football star husband Brick, but he only has eyes for the bottom of a whiskey bottle. Meanwhile, Big Daddy is dying, and the family vultures are swarming for a big slice of the inheritance pie. Couched in the earthy language of the deep South, this uncompromising, intensely human portrait of a family shows why Tennesee Williams is one of America’s greatest playwrights. (Strong language, mature themes). Directed by Christopher Liam Moore.

Play dates: February 20th through July 4th.

More info can be found here.

This backstage farce by the author of Lend Me a Tenor tells the story of Charlotte and George Hay, an acting couple who are not exactly the Lunts. While on tour in Buffalo in 1953 in Cyrano de Bergerac ("the revised, one nostril version") and Noel Coward's Private Lives, fate gives these thespians one more shot at starring roles in the movie version of the Scarlet Pimpernel.
