The Morels
I caught The Morels recently at Cattlemens Saloon in Rogue River. Great energy, splendid musicianship and just a great loose, fun vibe. A three piece, all three add vocals and this is a band with the capacity and an inclination to stretch their repertoire past the usual bar band milieu. This we can discover in the bands own words:
The Morels is an experimental work in progress. Steve Keim (guitar), Sam Gregory (drums) and Brett Sturgeon (bass). Steve and Sam are old high school buds and the founding members of the well known band, Leadfoot, which has since disbanded. Brett is the younger, better looking member who adds energy and spark to this new direction. Our goal is to bring more of a concert feel to the nightclub scene. We’ll be keeping some of the old standards in tow (we still want gigs) but even those are subject to Morel interpretation. We hope our audiences are prepared for music that goes a bit outside the box because that’s where this is going.
