Here we have a photo of Flute maker Jim Pettet at his booth at the Grants Pass Growers Market. Originally from Coos Bay Jim has lived in Grants Pass since '82. Jim has spent most of his life in the construction and cabinetry trades. A couple of years ago he bought an indian flute, found that he enjoyed playing it and that's when the idea of making flutes came to him.
Jim makes his Indian style flutes from a variety of woods, Tennesee Cedar, Walnut, Maple, some exotic African and South American woods and some local woods such as Alder and Birch.
I met Jim after hearing a wonderful story. Back in June a lovely young girl, a friend of my daughter, was at Jim's booth admiring the flutes and asked Jim if he made any that played from the side like her band flute. Jim replyed no, but offered to give it a try. A few weeks later the young lady was back at Jim's booth and sure enough Jim had created for her a beautiful indian flute she could play from the side. I've since gone camping with the girl twice, the flute sounds great and it is definitly a hit.
Jim sells his flutes with a flute bag, Jim's wife Juanita makes these, and a stand. Every flute sold is "in key", he tests them against an electronic tuner so they're ready to play along with a guitar or piano. Jim gaurentees his flutes for life and offers a full trade in if you are upgrading to one of his larger flutes.
